What company has the best rates for auto insurance? As a Houston Farmers insurance agent I get to compare rates with other companies every day. My experience is that no company (including mine), always has the lowest rate. I have not found any company that Farmers can never beat. I have not found any of the large competitors that I can always beat. The reason is that there are a large number of factors that insurance companies use to base their rate on. For example, age, sex, marital status, zip code, driving record, type of car, credit rating, type of job, eligible discounts, and more. Each auto insurance company has their own rate formula resulting in a different rate for each company. When a customer shops for the best deal, they are looking for the company with the most favorable formula for them, which results in the lowest rate for their policy. Please note that the price should not be your only consideration. Shop for a brand that you can trust, and find a agent that will know your needs and provide advice and service.

One thing I have found from experience is that in my area the companies that advertise heavily, saying they have the lowest rate, usually do not! My theory is that they have to adjust their rate higher to pay for all the expensive advertising.

Farmers insurance has very competitive rates for Houston auto insurance in most cases. Especially when a customer qualities for some of the discounts that Farmers offers. For example, auto/home discount, auto/renters, drivers training, auto alarm, EFT payment, etc.. Currently Farmers doesn’t have a true online auto rate quote system in Texas.
